Looking Good Girl!

Outfits

We always recommend you bring at least one set of clothes that we call the “Parent Pleaser,” or if your parents are cool, this would be the “Grandparent Pleaser.” What does this mean? Bring at least one outfit that is more classic, something that won’t be out of style in a few years. Sweaters, suits, and dresses work well. Solid colors or subtle prints in medium to dark tones are excellent choices for the classic look.

The rest of your outfits should reflect your style, the real “you.” Wear bolder colors and trendy clothing. Funky, cool outfits are a lot of fun and make for truly unique portraits.

Make sure everything fits. Too tight or too loose are not always flattering to your figure.

An outfit that says “this is me” is essential…sometimes rules are meant to be broken!

Some additional tips…

  • Choose colors that compliment your skin tone.
  • Avoid broad stripes or large, bold patterns.
  • Avoid sleeveless clothing unless you have a very slim build. Long or three-quarter sleeves look best on everyone.
  • Sweaters are always a good choice.

We suggest that you bring lots of choices and let Cindy help you find what will work best for you.

Have a dress rehearsal at home before you come so you can be sure that everything fits, that there aren’t any issues with any article of clothing, and that you remember everything you want to bring.

Now, let’s talk about how to get ready before you come…

Getting Makeup Ready

If you wear make-up, apply it as you usually would and then add a little extra mascara. This will bring out your eyes.

Please AVOID highlighting makeup, even if you normally use it.

If you are a die-hard natural and normally don’t wear make-up, we still suggest you do the following:

  • Wear at least a foundation to even out your skin tone. If you are unsure of your foundation color, contact us and we will help!
  • Add a little gloss on the lips
  • Use a touch of mascara
  • Cover blemishes with a dab of cover-up.

We include retouching on all your session originals, but this will make your previews look their best.

Facial shine is something we can’t touch up, so bring along a compact.

Hands & Hair

We always include hands in portraits, so be sure your nails are neatly groomed. Make sure that your polish is fresh without chips and in a neutral color that will match all of your outfits. Bright bold colors are not the best as they will stand out above all in your photographs.

Bare feet are a big favorite here at Studio C so you might want to paint your toenails too!

Do your hair like you always do. Don’t get a fresh haircut within a week of your portrait session, although, if your hair is colored be sure you don’t have unwanted roots showing. A fresh dye is best as roots are not easily fixed.
Girls bring accessories to style your hair in various ways, this will give you a nice variety of looks for your portraits.

We want you to be you and the choice is always yours at Studio C. These tips are just meant to help you make your portraits the very best that they can be!

Tips for Everyone

Avoid sunburns. We all love the sun but stay out of it for a few days before your session. A little color is beautiful but don’t overdo it! We can’t fix the redness of a sunburn digitally. Don’t get too tan, either; it will look unnatural. We want you to look like you.

Wrinkles show! Make sure your clothes are pressed.

Avoid wearing white socks, unless you want that look. White socks will draw attention to your feet and nobody will notice your gorgeous face!

Lenses in glasses can cause facial distortion and reflect light. This is difficult to digitally correct, so ask your eye doctor if he or she can supply a pair of glasses just like yours, but without lenses.

Shoes: avoid white tennis shoes, unless it is in your sports session. We like to photograph bare feet, but be sure to bring at least a pair of slip-ons for your outdoor portraits, just so you can walk to the location safely.

Coats and jackets make really cool props. You may consider bringing one or two along, just to add to an image. This will give you some additional variety in your portraits.
